Pilot steel elite fountain pen 18k wg nib. Here is one of pilot's most famous fountain pens ever, a pilot elite. These pens set the standard for most toher japanese pens from the mid '60s through the '80s. And here is the distinctive stianless steel version of the elite. During its lifetime the elite line was redesigned over and over, retainign only the script elite logo. Accoridng to a pilot ad from the mid 70's the steel elite would have been the perfect pen for sir isaac newton. Pocket size pens like this were very popular in japan from the 60's to the 80's. hTe pilot elite started this pocket pen boom. As the diagram below illustrates, they have a short barrel coupled with a long nib section into which the ink cartridge fits deeply.

The long cap corresponds to teh length of the nib section. When capped, these pens are the perfect compact size for carrying in your pocket. When the long cap is posted on the short barrel, these pens become full sized, and perfectly balanced for comfortable writing. Although no company produces them today, japanese pocket pens are enjoying new popularity in the west now as collectors and users recognize the ingenuity of this practical design.

These pens feel great, and since the cap finish is brushed steel, they continue looking great even after years of abuse. The black lines are recessed, away from epxosure to rubbing.

This pen also has a spring type clip to fit any thickness of fabric. Over 30 stroke kanji. The nib is 18k gold, a fine point, which is the most popular size on japanese pens where common kanji characters can have over 20 strokes, and uncommon ones can go over 30 strokes. This pen is new old stock (nos) and still has ist original price sticker. According to the date stamp this pen was made in october of 1976.
